About the Undergraduate Convocation Speaker

One day, just outside of Shreveport, Louisiana, Tim Crain (B.S., M.S., Ph.D., Aerospace Engineering) watched a space shuttle return home from the rooftop of his dad’s office building. At that moment, a lifelong passion for space was born.
Crain’s career has gone to the Moon and Mars, and he will share the insights he’s gained along the way as the featured speaker at Cockrell Commencement on May 8.
As chief technology officer for Intuitive Machines, which he co-founded in 2013, Crain led the first moon landing in 50 years. Before that, he joined Johnson Space Center in 2000 as a lead engineer in the Engineering Directorate’s Aeroscience and Flight Mechanics Division. While at JSC, he served as the flight dynamics lead for NASA’s Project Morpheus, worked on navigation for the Mars Science Lander and managed the Orbit Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) System for the Orion Spacecraft.
