In civil engineering, students gain a strong foundation in scientific and engineering principles and use those principles in all aspects of civil engineering — from structural and transportation design to resource mitigation and development. Students conduct research, participate in internships and engage in community-oriented activities to apply their skills in real-world scenarios, particularly in areas for which they have the strongest interest. Graduates may work in the private sector at consulting or construction firms or for state or local governments.
