MITE Application

My Introduction to Engineering (MITE) is a five-day summer camp for current high school juniors to discover engineering through participation in an engineering team project, hands-on activities and interactions with engineering students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Eligibility

  • MITE is designed for students interested in exploring engineering through hands-on activities, team projects, and a residential experience at UT Austin.

Applicants must:

  • Be current high school juniors who will enter their senior year in fall 2027.
  • Reside in the United States at the time of application.
  • Meet the academic preparation requirements below.
  • Be available to attend their entire assigned session and participate fully in program activities.
  • Previous engineering classes, robotics experience, or participation in STEM clubs are not required.

Academic Preparation

Applicants must have completed Algebra II or an equivalent course with a grade of C or better, or be currently enrolled with a grade of C or better at the application deadline.

Precalculus, Calculus, and advanced math or science coursework may strengthen an application but are not required.

Applications will be reviewed holistically, considering academic preparation, interest in engineering, application responses, and the educational opportunities available at the student’s school. Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission.

Required Application Materials

Applicants must submit:

  • A completed application through Ideal Logic.
  • A current high school transcript showing completed coursework, grades, and current enrollment.
  • Responses to the application questions explaining their interest in engineering and what they hope to gain from MITE.

If current course grades do not appear on the transcript, applicants should also upload a current progress report or report card.

Optional Test Scores

Test scores are not required. Applicants may submit available SAT, ACT, AP, or IB scores as additional evidence of academic preparation.

Students who have not taken these exams are welcome to apply. Their academic preparation will be evaluated through their coursework and grades.

Program Expectations

Participants must be prepared to:

  • Collaborate respectfully with teammates and program staff.
  • Participate in engineering activities and follow safety instructions.
  • Stay in campus housing and follow residential program procedures.
  • Attend the full session, including scheduled activities and presentations

Program Fee and Scholarships

The total program cost is $500 per participant, payable after acceptance into MITE. Full payment must be received before camp begins.

Full or partial scholarships are available to students who meet the eligibility criteria. To be considered, applicants must answer the scholarship questions in the application fully and truthfully.
