The I2P® Global Competition is an annual early-stage technology commercialization plan competition. This year 15 invited university teams, representing four continents and eight countries, will present their breakthrough technology commercialization plans and compete for over $52,500 in cash prizes that may be used to advance their innovations, as well as a chance to enter the Global MOOTCORP® competition.  Examples of team projects this year include cellular therapy, ultracapacitor, anti-bacterial material impregnation, and solar powered water-purification system.

The event is free and open to public.

The I2P® Global Competition is hosted by the Cockrell School of Engineering’s Murchison Chair of Free Enterprise at The University of Texas at Austin. The I2P® competition focuses on the education and creation of the next generation of technology entrepreneurs.  Teams benefit from valuable feedback from the entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, engineers, and intellectual property attorneys on the judging panels. Previous teams have produced work that has increased research funding, licensing of technology, and creation of new ventures. The competition has also served as a commercialization forum for faculty and members of the community.  Students gain insight into societal needs for their technology and community members receive an early preview of cutting-edge technology.

Idea to Product Competitions have expanded to a comprehensive system of entrepreneurial courses, workshops, seminars, and competitions across the world. Partner competitions now include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers iShow, Oak Ridge National Lab Global Venture Challenge, Missouri-Illinois I2P, National I2P Competition for Social Entrepreneurship, I2P Africa, I2P Asia, I2P Europe, and I2P Latin America.
