In the latest annual rankings of graduate programs by U.S. News & World Report, the Cockrell School of Engineering ranked 10th in the United States among 198 engineering schools offering doctoral programs, and fifth among public institutions.

The University of Texas at Austin’s graduate engineering programs again were ranked in the Top 20 or higher in the 2010 rankings: Aerospace (8th); Biomedical (17th); Chemical (7th); Civil (3rd); Computer (9th), Electrical/Electronic (10th); Environmental (4th); Mechanical (11th); and Petroleum (1st).

The rankings are based on entrance exam scores, student acceptance rates, faculty/student ratios, research expenditures, reputation among engineers in industry and academia, the number of Ph.D.s produced, and the percentage of faculty elected to the membership in the National Academy of Engineering.

Last year, the Cockrell School’s graduate programs were ranked 11th overall.
