Dr. Mary Wheeler, professor of aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics, and professor of petroleum and geosystems engineering at The University of Texas at Austin was granted an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering by the Board of Trustees of the Colorado School of Mines for her professional contributions to the engineering curriculum. Wheeler researches and teaches the use of computer simulations to model the behavior of fluids in geological formations. Her research covers a broad range of applications, including computer modeling of estuaries and coastal waters, subsurface modeling for petroleum exploration, and reservoir engineering. She holds the Ernest and Virginia Cockrell Chair in Engineering.
