In the annual rankings of graduate program quality by U.S. News and World Report, the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin ranked 11th in the nation among 199 accredited engineering schools offering doctoral programs, and 5th among the public institutions.

The University of Texas at Austin’s graduate engineering programs were all ranked in the top 20: Aerospace (8th), Biomedical (18th), Chemical (8th), Civil (4th), Computer (9th), Electrical/Electronics (12th), Environmental (4th), Mechanical (10th), and Petroleum (1st).

The college rankings are based on entrance exam scores, student acceptance rates, faculty/student ratios, research expenditures, reputation among engineers in academia and industry, Ph.D.s produced, and percentage of faculty elected to membership in the National Academy of Engineering.
