Four University of Texas at Austin engineering students will receive scholarships this year from the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation.

Aerospace engineering sophomore Miguel Cruz and civil engineering seniors Frederico Lozano and Denise Trevino won for the first time this year. Electrical engineering senior Carlos Silva will receive the scholarship for the third year in a row.

The students can use the money for tuition, books or living expenses. They also won trips to the 2007 HENAAC Conference in San Diego, California. The conference package includes airfare, hotel and registration expenses.

Winners were required to maintain minimum 3.0 grade point averages and had to be of Hispanic descent or had to have exhibited leadership and service on campus and in the
Hispanic community.

HENAAC is a nonprofit organization that promotes the achievements of Hispanics in engineering, science, technology, and math. The organization attempts to help Hispanics in technology by encouraging, enabling, and increasing the number of Hispanic students pursuing technical degrees. They have been awarding scholarships since 2001.
