ConocoPhillips has contributed $1 million to support academic programs at The University of Texas at Austin.
The grant benefits both undergraduates and graduate students in the university's McCombs School of Business, College of Engineering, Jackson School of Geosciences and College of Natural Sciences. The largest component of the donation is $400,000 for the SPIRIT Scholars program, which supports scholarships, mentorship programs, enrichment activities and internship opportunities for students pursuing a career in the energy industry.
University of Texas at Austin President William Powers Jr. noted that the contribution brings ConocoPhillips' total university giving to more than $16 million, including outright gifts and research grants.
"We deeply appreciate this support from ConocoPhillips," Powers said. "Their contributions are truly generous and transforming. I'm pleased to say that this gift continues a tradition of generosity over many years."
Headquartered in Houston, ConocoPhillips operates in more than 40 countries and has more than 38,000 employees. It is the third-largest integrated energy company in the United States, based on market capitalization, oil and gas reserves and production.
