Program and Course Credit

Study abroad programs, exchange partners, affiliate providers, and faculty-led programs can vary in how credit is reflected on the UT transcript.

• Faculty-led programs count for in-resident credit and are calculated in your overall GPA. Students register for courses taught by UT Austin faculty.
• Exchange courses are taught in English at partner universities. After course completion, students receive credits for the course and a grade, which impacts their GPA at UT Austin.
• Affiliate programs offer courses taught at designated study centers and, upon completion, are reflected as transfer credits with empty letter grades. These letter grades are not computed into a student’s overall GPA at UT Austin. Students must receive a C- or above in their affiliate program to pass.

Searching for Courses

After meeting with your academic advisor to confirm remaining degree requirements, search the My Credit Abroad (MyCA) database of 12,000+ previously approved courses. We recommend searching by application (program) code to see the full history of courses taken at a single location. Application codes can be found on each program page. Additionally, searching by course number shows every location where that course has been taken.

If no course match is available for a selected program, students may submit course syllabi for evaluation to determine the UT match. If no direct match exists, students will receive elective credit from the most relevant UT department. Course evaluation requests can be submitted anytime, and evaluations typically take four to six weeks.*

*The My Credit Abroad database isn’t automatically updated. If a program lists courses not found in My Credit Abroad, we recommend submitting a Course Evaluation Request with the course syllabi. Our MyCA database expands as more students submit courses for evaluation.

If the selected courses already appear in the MyCA database, confirm the record is still valid by reviewing the expiration date. After selecting their courses and program, students should connect with their program coordinator to start their study abroad application.

Congratulations on being selected to go abroad! After acceptance and before you depart, we will work together to ensure that you are prepared for this experience. Additional resources and information, like passport services and health clearances, can also be found on the Texas Global website.

Pre-Departure Checklist

• Attend a Pre-Departure Orientation Session – Sessions are conducted every semester. Students will receive more details based on their selected program term and type throughout the semester.
• Attend a Health & Safety Workshop – A variety of health and safety sessions will be led by our Global Risk and Safety team. Students are required to attend one of the sessions. See upcoming Health & Safety Workshops or view more health and safety resources to help plan your trip.
• Complete MyAbroad Acceptance Forms – Log in to your MyAbroad account to access your forms. All items marked “Do It Now” must be completed by the compliance deadline for your program.

Pre-Departure Requirement Deadlines

The deadline to complete all requirements for your study abroad experience varies by program. Please see the deadlines for each program below:

• Exchange/Affiliated Program (Spring) – December 1
• May Term Programs – March 1
• Exchange/Affiliated Program (Summer) – May 1
• Exchange/Affiliated Program (Fall) – June 15
