Semester Programs

Cockrell students can spend a full semester or two semesters concurrently abroad, earning at least 12 hours of credit per semester. Our semester programs also provide students opportunities to build a global network, develop their professional skills in a new culture and practice a foreign language.
Exchange Programs
The Cockrell School of Engineering maintains reciprocal exchange agreements with over 35 prestigious universities worldwide. These exchange programs provide a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a global academic environment by studying alongside local students, engaging in cutting-edge research projects or participating in academic or non-academic internships abroad—all while continuing to pay tuition at UT Austin.

Affiliate Programs and Providers
Approved affiliate providers are third-party non-profits that have set up a study center with full-time staff in a major city or location and maintain relationships/partnerships with local universities. During the semester, UT Austin students may attend these local universities or enroll in courses taught by experts in their study centers.* Some affiliate partners also offer internship courses for academic credit.
*Students may be required to take a language course as part of the affiliate program experience.
Benefits of Affiliate Programs
- Program Cost Savings – Housing, on-site support, and some activities and excursions are included in the program costs
- Shorter Semesters – Affiliate providers typically run shorter programs than universities, allowing for more opportunities to take summer courses, participate in internships or complete their semester early.
- Lower GPA Requirements – GPA requirements are typically lower to allow more students the opportunity to study abroad.
- Financial Aid – Financial aid awards from the University can be applied towards affiliate programs
Affiliate Program Info Sessions
Semester affiliate/semester exchange group info sessions are held every Monday in EER 2.610 at 4:00PM.
Credits and Transcripts
Courses must be evaluated prior to departure to ensure courses provide relevant credit towards degree completion. These courses only count as transfer credit and not for a letter grade, and grades are not computed into the student’s overall UT GPA.
Transcripts from affiliate programs are usually sent within three months of the program’s end, and credits can take up to one long semester to appear on UT transcripts.
