The Bold Leadership Download series features inspiring leaders of industry who share their pathway to success with UT students, faculty and alumni.
What’s the price you pay when you walk into a room? For Black STEM students and professionals—as well as individuals from other underrepresented groups—there’s a cost to entering the classroom, lab, conference, and more. Tyrone Porter, biomedical engineering in the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, has paid this tax on countless occasions in his STEM career.
Future Engineers Day is a daylong event for students in grades 7-11 to learn about engineering through hands-on activities led and taught by current UT students. Future Engineers Day aims to promote engineering where it hasn't been before in a way that allows participants to begin to see themselves as members of the Cockrell School Engineering community.
The event is geared toward students in the greater Austin area in grades 7-11 who are interested in the field of engineering. We want students to start thinking about their futures now and show prospective students that they have a supporting community within the Cockrell School. Everyone is welcome to attend. Activities include a panel of current UT students, a scavenger hunt and hands-on experiments and activities.
