Experience Life Outside the Classroom

With so many resources at your fingertips, you can make your Texas Engineering experience entirely your own.

Get Involved

From the moment you arrive at the Cockrell School, education happens inside and outside of the classroom. Meet your fellow classmates. Join one of our 80+ engineering student organizations that provide an outlet for every engineering interest, and community for students of every background. Learn about a new culture while studying abroad. Challenge yourself to create and innovate by getting involved in research or events like the Create-a-Thon and the cardboard regatta. Discover cutting-edge science and engineering in our labs as an undergraduate researcher or use engineering to serve communities around the world through programs like PUC. The opportunities to get involved are yours for the taking.

Take the Lead

What starts here, changes the world — and our students are leading that change. We’re developing student leaders that will become the CEOs, startup founders, inventors and educators of the next generation. Volunteer and learn to lead through programs like the LeaderShape Institute or Engineering Ambassadors. Practice entrepreneurship and make your ideas a reality by establishing your own student organization, event or even your own startup with the help of entrepreneurial programs on campus. Or, if you’re still finding your path, we can help with that too.

Explore Austin

There’s a reason — multiple reasons — why Austin is consistently named at the top of best-city lists. There are the obvious standout qualities: a sunny, temperate climate year-round; a music, arts and culture scene that’s ever-changing; and its position as a major technology hub with a thriving economy and job market.

And then there are the extra qualities that make Austin special:

  • an open-minded spirit that welcomes all;
  • the natural beauty built into the city;
  • and no shortage of festivals, events and activities happening all year long.

Students can ride public transportation for free with your UT ID, and with Austin being walkable and bike-friendly, you should get away from campus when you can and experience your new home city.
