The Cockrell School of Engineering’s research units and centers coordinate and promote faculty and student research extending across and beyond campus. These centers also provide and maintain specialized research facilities for faculty within designated fields. Texas Engineering provides facilities that are among the best in the nation.

Cockrell School Research Centers

Center for Additive Manufacturing and Design Innovation

The Center for Additive Manufacturing and Design Innovation seeks to contribute to the rich history of additive manufacturing at UT Austin through innovative research and new process development.

Center for Aeromechanics Research

The Center for Aeromechanics Research conducts computational, analytical and experimental research in supersonic and hypersonic aerodynamics, high-temperature gas dynamics, turbulence, combustion, laser diagnostics, aeroelasticity and structural dynamics, control of flexible structures, and flight structures.

Center for Dynamics and Control of Materials

The Center for Dynamics and Control of Materials brings together researchers from across science and engineering to create materials with new atomic-scale structures and functionalities and to develop approaches for actively controlling and reconfiguring materials in real time.

Center for Electromechanics

The Center for Electromechanics performs leading-edge basic and applied research in electrical and mechanical engineering, with a special emphasis on applied engineering leading to prototype development in electromechanical devices and systems with high specific power, force and/or energy storage or other unique attributes.

Center for Energy and Environmental Resources

The Center for Energy and Environmental Resources focuses on efficient and economical use of energy and on ensuring a cleaner environment by developing, in cooperation with industry, processes and technologies that minimize waste and conserve natural resources.

Center for Energy and Environmental Systems Analysis

The Center for Energy and Environmental Systems Analysis provides data-driven, science-based research to inform global policy and support real-world emissions reductions across the energy sector.

Center for Generative AI

The Center for Generative AI is housed within the Machine Learning Laboratory (MLL) and conducts research with core focuses on biosciences, health care, computer vision and Natural Language Processing (NLP).

Texas Quantum Institute
