The University of Texas at Austin Texas Industries of the Future program received the 2008 Industrial Energy Technology Conference Energy Award for its work with Texas’ industrial energy users. Through 48 workshops, forums, roundtables, and conferences, The Texas Industries of the Future program resulted in energy savings of 1.79 trillion Btus/year among workshop attendees.

The program is primarily funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy through contracts with the Texas State Energy Conservation Office. Project manager Kathey Ferland operates the program as a part of the Cockrell School of Engineering’s Center for Energy and Environmental Resources.

The conference giving the award addresses energy use and management by industrial energy consumers and involves professionals and researchers in those fields.
