Lance Manuel, Associate Professor of civil engineering, and Korn Saranyasoontorn, who earned his civil engineering doctorate in May 2006, won the Best Journal Paper for 2006 from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ Technical Committee on Wind Energy (Solar Energy Division).  The paper, entitled "Design Loads for Wind Turbines using the Environmental Contour Method,” proposes an efficient simulation-based procedure for predicting design loads for a wind turbine that ensures specified reliability levels over the turbine’s planned service life.

Manuel holds the Fluor Centennial Teaching Fellowship in Engineering.
