Event:  College students in solar cars and on a stationary bicycle that generates electricity will be part of this year's interactive Edison Lecture, which is sponsored by the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Austin.

When:  Wednesday, Jan. 10, Thursday, Jan. 11 and Friday, Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for middle-school and high-school students.  Exhibits will be available 45 minutes before these lectures. An additional lecture Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. is open to anyone.

Where:  Robert A. Welch Hall, Room 2.224

Background:  More than 3,000 middle-school and high-school students from around Austin will learn about renewable energy and technology that can reduce fossil fuel use during the third annual Edison Lecture Series.  Each hour-long presentation will include audience participation, T-shirt give-aways and technology demonstrations. Exhibits from the renewable energy industry and demonstrations led by College of Engineering students will also be displayed. The lectures showcase opportunities in renewable energy to motivate middle-school and high-school students from various backgrounds to pursue technology careers. Noted Dr. Anthony Ambler, chair of the Department of Electrical and Computing Engineering. “The lecture will show students how far we’ve come in providing clean, cheap energy and the most promising directions for the future.” In the previous two years, more than 8,000 middle-school and high-school students attended the Edison Lecture Series.
