Gone to Engineering, the annual fall welcoming event for incoming engineering students, was held the evening before classes Aug. 28. It was followed by the university's large Gone to Texas celebration at the Tower.

More than 1,700 new Longhorn engineers, including incoming freshman, graduate and transfer students, mingled with one another while learning more about the school's various student organizations.

Student Government President Thor Lund, a mechanical engineering senior, and civil engineering senior Alison Barton, president of the Student Engineering Council, spoke to the crowd about what to expect during their four years at the Cockrell School. Lund and Barton encouraged students to take advantage of the school's resources, including student organizations, faculty office hours and networking opportunities.

Special thanks goes out to corporate partner BP for making the event so memorable for the students.
