Abatement began on the 50-year-old ENS in September, and the building is now in the final stages of demolition. By early 2015, the site will be fully cleared and the Cockrell School will hold the official groundbreaking for the EERC.

The EERC, which will be a 430,000-square-foot, cutting-edge facility dedicated to multidisciplinary engineering education and research, is set to open in 2017. It will reshape the UT Austin campus forever and transform the way Texas Engineering students learn — offering open, flexible space, state-of-the-art labs and a new innovation center that will further our culture of invention and entrepreneurship.

It’s a vision that began nearly a decade ago, when school and university leadership made a commitment to enhancing engineering education for the 21st century and ensuring that the Cockrell School remains among the top engineering schools in the world.
