Courtney McElroy
Executive Director
Courtney McElroy, Ph.D., is the inaugural Executive Director of Texas Engineering Diversity and Engagement for the Cockrell School. Courtney has over 15 years of higher education experience, serving in roles at Florida International University and East Carolina University and most recently as an assistant director at the University of Houston. He earned his Ph.D. in educational leadership from the University of Houston, his M.S. in higher education and student personnel from the University of Mississippi and his B.A. in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. Courtney has a passion for creating equitable systems that create inclusive environments for all students.
Johnny Hill
Assistant Director
Johnny Hill is an alumnus of The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his bachelor's degree in economics. He is an advocate of social justice and ensuring all students have access and equitable opportunities in engineering. He joined the Cockrell School of Engineering in 2016 as an academic advisor in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering before joining the Equal Opportunity in Engineering Program in 2017.
Erica Garza
Assistant Director of Engineering Student Life
Erica Garza joined the Cockrell School of Engineering in 2022. Prior to that, she worked in the student life office in UT's McCombs School of Business. Erica earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Education from the University of North Texas. She is from Austin and loves exploring the city and surrounding areas.
Rachel Nemets
Senior Student Program Coordinator for the Women in Engineering Program
Rachel Nemets earned her bachelor’s degree in animal science from The Ohio State University and her master’s degree in student affairs in higher education from Texas State University. She joined the Women in Engineering Program in February 2022. Previously, Rachel served as an academic advisor for political science undergraduate students and the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University. Rachel loves animals and especially spending time with her dog, Charlie Brown. She loves hiking and kayaking in San Marcos, where she resides. Rachel also loves decorating her office with two of her favorite things — donuts and Bob’s Burgers!
Mutiyat Ade-Salu
Senior Student Program Coordinator for the Equal Opportunity in Engineering Program
Mutiyat Ade-Salu (she/her) previously coordinated academic programs and social events for UT's College of Fine Arts and Texas Global. Mutiyat received her B.A. in music and African-American theatre from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, worked for many years as a professional artist and arts administrator and then went on to earn her master's degree in acting from the University of Louisville. In her free time, she enjoys watching Nollywood movies on Netflix and working out in the park. Cool fact: her dad is a civil engineer!
Yocelyn Rivera
Student Program Coordinator for the Woman in Engineering Program
Yocelyn Rivera earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from The University of Texas at Austin. She joined the Women in Engineering Program in August 2022 after previously working in the Office of Admissions at UT Austin. Yocelyn loves spending time with her dog, Mookie, and going on hikes with him. She also loves reading, listening to Latin music and traveling.
Leslie Guzman
Student Program Coordinator for the Equal Opportunity in Engineering Program
Prior to joining the Cockrell School, Leslie Guzman worked as a math teacher at Kealing Middle School. She earned her bachelor's degree in community studies from the College of Education at UT Austin. She is from Laredo, fluent in Spanish and loves staying home with her husband and dog.
